The National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, distributed over 200 upper arm blood pressure monitors to officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and COWA members on Friday at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja.
The event was part of the commemoration of World Hypertension Day 2024, which has the theme “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It & Live Longer.” Mrs. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of understanding hypertension, empowering oneself with knowledge, and taking proactive steps to prevent it.
Mrs. Adeniyi said that the initiative is part of COWA’s effort to encourage the wives of Customs officers to keep their families healthy. She described hypertension as a chronic medical condition that requires attention and proactive measures to prevent and manage.
The distribution of BP monitors is aimed at encouraging officers and their families to monitor their blood pressure regularly and take control of their health. This initiative is part of COWA’s efforts to promote healthy living and prevent the risks associated with hypertension.
World Hypertension Day is observed annually on May 17 to raise awareness about hypertension and promote the prevention, detection, and treatment of the condition. The day is marked by various activities, including health talks, screenings, and distributions of health materials.
