The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has taken a significant step towards enhancing its data handling capabilities, with the launch of a three-day capacity-building workshop on data generation, analytics, and storage.

The workshop, which kicked off on Monday at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, aims to equip officers with comprehensive knowledge in various aspects of data management.

In his opening remarks, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Malanta Yusuf, representing the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the critical role of data in strategic planning and operational efficiency.

“Effective decision-making relies heavily on robust data generation and analytics,” ACG Yusuf stressed. “Historical data is essential for organizations like Customs, responsible for border management and trade facilitation.”

The workshop is designed to enhance the service’s capabilities in modern customs operations through improved data handling, analysis, and storage. This aligns with international best practices and demonstrates the NCS’s commitment to facilitating trade, preventing fraud, and enhancing national security.

Officers attending the workshop are expected to gain comprehensive knowledge in data management, enabling them to make informed decisions and drive operational efficiency.

The NCS’s efforts to boost its data handling capabilities are seen as a positive development in the country’s customs modernization efforts.

By adopting new data analysis techniques and tools, the service can better respond to emerging challenges and opportunities in the global trade landscape.
