The National Board for Technical Education has acredited seven courses in various disciplines at the Kebbi State College of Health Science Technology, Jega for improved professionalism in the heath sector, especially at grassroots level.
The Provost of the College, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu, disclosed this when the Kebbi State Media Team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, visited the institution on Wednesday
The Provost said the accredited programmes includeed Community Health, Health Education and Promotion, Health Information Management, Public Health, Environmental Health Technology, Medical Science Laboratory Technology, and another approved health-related programme.
He noted that the accreditation had opened new opportunities for students while strengthening the national standing of the institution.
Alhaji Hussaini also highlighted improvements in infrastructure and staff and student welfare, including the renovation of male and female students’ hostels, construction of a new entrance gate and perimeter improvements, provision of six functional boreholes—three of which are solar-powered—renovation of the ICT Centre, and provision of a new 36-seater bus.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Bunza, said the college ihad begun admitting students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) process following the NBTE accreditation, stressing that the development was a major milestone for the institution and its students.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Accreditation Committee of the Governing Council, Alhaji Aliyu Ladan, said the committee recorded what he described as “100% success” after Governor Idris directed that the institution should acquire nationally recognised foundational programmes.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who led the Governor’s media aides to the institution, said the visit was aimed at seeing firsthand the developments recorded under the Kauran Gwandu-led administration.
