Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi flagged off the distribution of 110 trucks of fertizers to farmers in a deliberate effort to ensure food suffiency and affordability.
He stated that government had taken this measure to reduce the cost of food production in 2026 wet farming season, promising to put in place mechanism that would ensure all farmers receive there share.
Governor Idris warned the officials vested with the responsibilities of distributing the commodities not to politicise the exercise because farming has no political affiliations, however urging farmers to make good of the fertiliser to ensure sustainable food security in the State.
He then issued stern warning to enemies of progress who usually produce adulterated fertiliser and alleged to be the ones distributed by government, stressing that both the companies and government would take legal action against them.
The state chief executive noted that some quarters of the society were unhappy with his gesture of distributing grains, fertiliser, farm inputs and implements free of charge to the people, he however promised to conte on the same path because the state funds were for their betterment.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, explained that the governor started the gesture since 2023 and would continue providing dividends of democracy throughout his stay as the numb one Citizen in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, said, committees had been set up for the distribution of the commodities to ensure that they reach the target beneficiaries.
