The 2027 reelection bid of former Governor of Bauchi State, Barr Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), got a boost as members of a support group, Youth Forward Initiative (YFI), on Friday, declared their support for his candidature.
The group made the declaration on during a press conference held in Wuntin Dada, addressed by Garba M Musa, to formally declare support for the reelection bid.
Reading text of the briefing, Garba Musa stated that, “Today marks an important moment in the political journey of Bauchi State and in the collective aspiration of young people who desire competent, responsible, and visionary leadership.”
According to him, “We have carefully observed the political landscape, consulted widely across our membership, engaged stakeholders, and reviewed the records, capacities, and leadership credentials of those aspiring to lead Bauchi State in the coming political dispensation.’
He declared that, “After extensive deliberations, Youth Forward Initiative (YFI), Bauchi State Chapter, hereby declares its support for the aspiration and candidature of Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, former Governor of Bauchi State.”
The reasons for the declaration includes proven experience of the former Governor, stating that, “Leadership is not an experiment. Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has previously served as Governor of Bauchi State and possesses practical knowledge of governance, public administration, policy implementation, and resource management.” The group stressed that,”
At a time when Bauchi State requires tested leadership, we believe experience remains a valuable asset.”
On fiscal discipline and accountability, the group claimed that, “His administration governed during one of the most difficult economic periods in Nigeria’s history. Despite recession, declining federal allocations, inflation, and inherited liabilities, government institutions continued to function and public resources were managed with caution and responsibility.” “We believe Bauchi State deserves leaders who understand the value of public funds and the importance of financial discipline,” it added.
Highlighting commitment to due process, it opined that, “Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, demonstrated commitment to institutional governance and due process. His administration introduced reforms aimed at strengthening government institutions and reducing waste. Strong institutions are essential for sustainable development.”
Speaking on Youths Development Potential, it stated that, “As young people, we seek leadership that can create opportunities, attract investment, support entrepreneurship, and expand economic opportunities for the next generation.”
The group added that, “We believe his experience and network position him to engage development partners, investors, and stakeholders capable of supporting youth-focused programmes.’
Further speaking on peace, stability , and unity, YFI stated that,”Bauchi State requires leadership that can unite diverse interests and promote peaceful coexistence. We believe Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar possesses the maturity and experience necessary to provide stable leadership.”
On what their expectations are, Garba Musa declared that,”While declaring our support, we also call upon Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar to continue engaging with young people across the state and to prioritize: Youth employment and entrepreneurship, Education and skills acquisition, Agricultural empowerment programmes. Digital innovation and technology inclusive governance and Community development.”
Youth Forward Initiative then declared that it shall, “mobilize, educate, and engage young people across Bauchi State to participate actively in the democratic process.”
It added that, “We shall continue to advocate issue-based politics and support leadership that prioritizes the welfare, development, and prosperity of our people.”
“Today, we proudly and officially declare our support for Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN). We do so not out of sentiment, but based on our assessment of leadership experience, governance capacity, and commitment to the development of Bauchi State,” it added.
It concluded by calling upon all well-meaning citizens, youth organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to join hands in building a better future for Bauchi State.
