Private industry drives regional mobility revolution as Adamawa launches electric tricycle scheme

A private company in Nigeria’s North East, P-GAT Industries Ltd has on Saturday commissioned 300 electric tricycles for commercial deployment in Adamawa State, for the official rollout of its ambitious Affordable Transport Solution (ATRaS) initiative.

The vehicles, shall operate initially in Yola and parts of Numan Local Government Area, and are expected to charge riders half the fare of conventional tricyclists a move the company believes will ease the burden of rising transportation costs while creating new business opportunities for local operators.

In his address, Engr. Prime GA Timothy, Chairman and President of P-GAT Industries Ltd, who has pilot the project through five years of planning, described ATRaS as a carefully engineered response to the challenges of expensive transport fares in the country.

Timothy said his vision is grow into a fully integrated transport system covering all North East states in its early phase. The launch took centre stage at the ATRaS Mobility Transition Summit in Numan, which attracted representatives from the six North East states.

The gathering personality highlighted growing regional interest in sustainable mobility solutions.This both Taraba and Borno States that express strong commitment to the scheme.

Dr. Nafisa Tijani, representing Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum through the Borno State Investment Promotion Agency, emphasized that Borno has streamlined its investment processes, allowing legitimate businesses to commence operations within two months of fulfilling licensing requirements.

The President Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Engr Timothy Iwuagu attended as a guest, lauded the timing of the project. And noted that the prevailing security situation in the North East is far more stable than commonly perceived outside the region, providing a solid foundation for investments like ATRaS to succeed and scale.

It was on this note, that the P-GAT Industries, Saturday commissioned represents the culmination of long-term planning and the beginning of a broader vision to transform mobility across the North East through clean energy transport.

Therefore, while the 300 electric tricycles plys Adawa roads, the scheme stands as a model of how private innovation, supported by state governments, can deliver practical, affordable, and forward-looking solutions to citizens in the region.

The occasion drew all the traditional rulers of Muman federation local government areas from, Numam, Demsa, Lamurde, Guyuk and Shelleng including the states in the Northeast region, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Yobe and Taraba states.
