Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District and Peoples Redemption Party PRP Governorship Candidate for Bauchi State, has donated ₦6.5 million in relief support to victims of the recent flood disaster in Bara community, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Senator Umar visited the affected community on Sunday, June 14, 2026, to assess damage and commiserate with residents.
This was contained in a statement by Comrade Sabo Mohammed, Adviser on Media and Communication to Senator Shehu and PRP Governorship Candidate, Bauchi State.
The flood, which occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, destroyed over 366 houses, eight electricity poles, several shops and perimeter walls, and swept away livestock. Two women lost their lives in the incident.
“This is a painful tragedy that has affected hundreds of families. Their plight will be brought before the National Assembly and relevant federal agencies to ensure urgent intervention,” Senator Umar said during the visit.
He emphasized the need for proper drainage systems, erosion control measures, and other ecological projects to prevent future disasters.
Relief Support Provided:
– ₦6.5 million cash donation to affected households
– 100 pieces of clothing materials, wrappers
– 200 foam mattresses
– 150 blankets
– 100 bags of assorted relief items
Senator Umar commended the resilience and unity displayed by Bara community members despite the devastation. He also appreciated the warm reception extended to him and his delegation.
He called on the Bauchi State Government, National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, humanitarian organizations, and well meaning individuals to provide additional support for rebuilding the community.
The senator reaffirmed his commitment to policies that prioritize disaster management, environmental protection, and welfare for vulnerable communities across Bauchi State.
Members of his delegation included the State Chairman of PRP Alh Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu’s (Sardaunan Boto), Alhaji Bashir Bukar Rimin Zayam, PRP State Secretary; all PRP candidates from Alkaleri and Kirfi LGAs; Hon. Shehu Aliyu Musa, Bauchi South Senatorial Candidate; the immediate past APC Organising Secretary; and other party leaders and stakeholders.
