Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, stressing that every resident of the state has the constitutional right to practice their religion freely and without discrimination.
Governor Soludo made the declaration on Sunday while addressing participants at the Anglican Diocesan Synod held in Ezira, Orumba South Local Government Area. The remarks were contained in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.
The governor expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra State for their support during the last governorship election, emphasizing that his administration remains dedicated to serving all citizens irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
“I am the governor of all denominations—Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers. Everyone has the freedom to worship in Anambra. We are one people and must celebrate our common humanity,” Soludo stated.
He warned against the growing trend of social divisions and fragmentation across the world, describing them as threats to peaceful coexistence and sustainable development. He urged citizens to embrace unity, tolerance, and mutual understanding in order to foster a harmonious society.
The governor also expressed concern over increasing divisions within the Christian community, calling on residents to uphold values that promote peace, cooperation, and collective progress.
On appointments into public office, Soludo reiterated that competence, integrity, capacity, and commitment to service remain the guiding principles of his administration.
“For me, it is about the value individuals bring to governance. Most of those appointed into my administration earned their positions because of their competence, capacity, and ability to deliver results,” he said.
He appealed to Ndi Anambra to remain patient and continue supporting his administration as it pursues its development agenda, assuring them of his unwavering commitment to merit-driven leadership.
“Whoever can get the job done is the person I will hire,” the governor added.
Governor Soludo also commended the Anglican Church for establishing a nursing school in Isulo, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to healthcare delivery, human capital development, and socio-economic growth in the state.
While encouraging continued investment in education and healthcare, he maintained that expenditure in these critical sectors should be viewed as an investment in the future rather than a cost.
The governor further advised religious leaders to be mindful of the prevailing economic realities facing their congregants. He urged them to ensure that church projects and financial obligations remain within the means of worshippers.
According to him, faith-based institutions play a vital role in community development but should also consider the financial wellbeing of their members.
Earlier, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, commended the governor for ongoing developmental projects across the state. He praised the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and urban renewal, noting that the initiatives have positively impacted communities throughout Anambra.
The bishop also appealed for sustained government support for the Church’s educational and healthcare programmes and assured the governor of continued prayers for the success of his administration.
