Presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on the government to take firm and decisive action against terrorism and insecurity in order to safeguard schools and the wider society.
Obi made the statement on Thursday while visiting Practicing Nursery and Primary School in Agulu, Anambra State, where he donated a cheque toward the reconstruction of a section of the school destroyed by a mysterious fire in December 2024.
The former Anambra State Governor donated an initial sum of N10 million to support the rebuilding project. He emphasized the importance of quality education, noting that the standard of education in any nation reflects its level of development.
Reacting to the recent wave of insecurity affecting schools, including the kidnapping of pupils and teachers as well as the killing of a teacher in Oyo State, Obi stressed that strong political will and decisive leadership are necessary to tackle terrorism effectively.
According to him, “We must not only secure our schools but also protect society as a whole. Achieving this requires courage, determination, and decisive action from those in government.”
Obi further recalled his time as Governor of Anambra State, stating that his administration implemented effective security measures that helped maintain peace and safety across the State.
Presenting the donation, Obi explained that he had previously visited the school and promised to assist in rebuilding the damaged structure. He said the donation was part of his commitment to ensuring that children learn in a safe and conducive environment.
