Frontline gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress APC Chief David Sabo Kente has stepped aside from the APC Guber Primaries scheduled for tomorrow.
Chief Kente made the announcement in Jalingo on Wednesday during a Press briefing at his residence.
He said that his decision became imperative due to enormous pressure on him from various quartets including the national leadership of the party, religious and other leaders who insist that he should allow the incumbent governor Agbu Kefas to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming general elections..
While urging his supporters to continue to work for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Kente clarified that he will consult further and communicate a clear position to his followers in the days to come.
“I have called you once again to announce a very important decision my team and I have taken, in consultation with various stakeholders across the State are beyond.
“As you are all aware, my decision to join the APC gubernatorial race was anchored on the pressure from the people of Taraba State who felt the present administration has not lived up to their expectations and they needed someone to step in.
“After much reluctance, I was persuaded to join the race with an unflinching determination to make a difference. Our tested popularity and acceptability out us in a position of strength over all other opponents.
“However, I have come under immense pressure lately from leaders across religious, political and ethnic divides both within and outside the State who clamour for political stability of our dear State and party.
“I have also observed with dismay, the ongoing primaries of our dear party in the State and have come to the conclusion that nothing good can possibly come out of it.
“Consequently, after due consultation with all relevant stakeholders especially my political supporters who sacrificed their resources to purchase the Expression of interest and Nomination forms for me, I want to announce to you my withdrawal from the race.
“Let me emphasise here that I am not stepping down for or endorsing anyone and no one has “settled” me. My decision is strictly in the interest of political stability, peace and unity of our party and the entire Taraba State. This is not for any personal gain. Quite to the contrary, I have already invested hugely in this project but I must put the people first, thus my withdrawal from the race.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on my teeming supporters to stay calm, remain loyal to our great party and work for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has good intentions for our State and the country at large.
“As the days go by, I will be in touch to give us clear direction and will stay committed to the cause of a greater, better and more prosperous Taraba and Nigeria at large.
“The entire old APC members are not given a chance to do anything. We are literally wiped out
