Katung wins APC Kaduna South Senatorial District Primary

The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election held across the eight local government areas of the district.

Katung defeated former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta in the keenly contested exercise conducted on Monday.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. John Gambo Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, announced the results at the collation centre located at the Jema’a Local Government Secretariat.

Prof. Laah described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and orderly, noting that delegates from Kagarko, Sanga, Kauru, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema’a, Jaba and Kachia local government areas participated in the voting process.

According to the results declared, Katung secured a total of 7,513 votes to emerge winner of the primary election.

A breakdown of his votes showed that he polled 985 votes in Kagarko, 588 in Sanga, 1,348 in Kauru, 815 in Zangon Kataf, 1,029 in Kaura, 1,113 in Jema’a, 570 in Jaba and 1,005 in Kachia.

Former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah came second with 1,370 votes. He scored 180 votes in Kagarko, 107 in Sanga, 248 in Kauru, 160 in Zangon Kataf, 188 in Kaura, 202 in Jema’a, 102 in Jaba and 183 in Kachia.

Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta placed third with a total of 878 votes, comprising 115 votes in Kagarko, 69 in Sanga, 154 in Kauru, 102 in Zangon Kataf, 123 in Kaura, 131 in Jema’a, 68 in Jaba and 116 in Kachia.

The returning officer commended party stakeholders, security agencies and delegates for ensuring a hitch-free exercise across the senatorial district.

“With this result, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung is hereby returned as the winner of the APC Kaduna South Senatorial District primary election,” Prof. Laah declared.

Reacting to the outcome, the Executive Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the result as a reflection of the wishes of party members at the grassroots.

He said the conduct of the exercise demonstrated the strength of internal democracy within the APC and expressed confidence that the party would record victory in the forthcoming general elections.

Gaiya further assured that the people of Zangon Kataf would continue to support Senator Katung, Governor Uba Sani and other APC candidates in the next elections.
He also appealed to party members and other aspirants to remain united in the interest of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The people have spoken through a transparent process, and we must all work together to ensure victory for our party at all levels,” he said.
