A 41-year-old travel agent, Ismail Monsuru, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N572,000 under the guise of procuring a Canadian visa.
The defendant is facing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, alleged that in February, at No. 8, Togunde St., Gbagi area, Ibadan, the defendant obtained N572,000 from one Musa Togunde under the pretence of procuring a Canadian visa for him.
She said the defendant failed to procure the visa.
“The defendant knew that the representation he made was false but converted the money to his personal use,” Adedosu said.
Adedosu said the offence contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Oyo State Criminal Law, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Oyediji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Oyediji adjourned the case until June 15 for hearing. (NAN)
