The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has praised the leadership of the NBA Onitsha Branch for what he described as outstanding and visionary administration.
Osigwe gave the commendation during the commissioning of newly completed facilities, including a Premier Bar Lounge, gym, and cloakroom, constructed by the branch in Onitsha, Anambra State.
He encouraged other NBA branches across the country to emulate the Onitsha Branch, noting that although branches receive 20 percent of practicing fees, many have failed to invest such resources in impactful developmental projects.
According to him, the Onitsha Branch has shown strong leadership, accountability, and prudent management of resources.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the project committee and former Attorney General of Anambra State, Hon. E.D. Chukwuma, disclosed that the project was initiated in 2024 and completed without placing financial pressure on members of the branch. He described the achievement as historic and significant for the association.
Also addressing attendees, the Chairman of the NBA Onitsha Branch, Barrister Afam Obi, stated that leadership should be judged by the positive legacy it leaves behind rather than the duration of time spent in office. He added that the newly commissioned facilities symbolize unity, identity, and continuity within the branch.
Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and other legal practitioners present at the ceremony also applauded the initiative, describing the Onitsha Branch as a shining example for other NBA branches, especially in the South-East region.
