The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of three members of the same family in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended following an intensive investigation into the disappearance of the victims.
Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the suspects identified as Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie, 33, and Clement Nnaekezie, 69, on May 3, 2026, in Oba and Ukpor respectively.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and later led officers to a shallow grave where the victims had been buried.
The victims were identified as Robert Nnakezie, 67; Ikechukwu Obi, 14; and two-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was said to be visiting the family for the holidays.
Police said the bodies have been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have resulted from a family dispute over the ownership of a bitter kola tree and inherited land.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and unacceptable. He assured the public that justice would be served.
The Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with useful information to help combat crime in the State.
