BREAKING: President Bola Tinubu Establishes Federal Ministry of Livestock Development

“The establishment of the Ministry of Livestock was announced during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, which aims to address the ongoing farmers-herders crisis. The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila.

This development follows President Tinubu’s approval in September 2023 of the establishment of a Presidential Committee to reform the livestock industry and provide long-term solutions to the recurring conflicts between herders and farmers. The committee’s creation was a response to the report submitted by the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) had previously urged the President to establish a dedicated ministry for livestock, and their request has now been fulfilled. MACBAN President Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma had made the demand on behalf of the association.”
