The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider appointing a qualified personnel from the South East Zone as the next Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This move would promote national integration and federal character, balancing the leadership of para-military agencies.
During a State of the Nation press conference, the NCSCN reiterated its commitment to promoting good governance, equity, justice, and productive leadership, while condemning poor leadership, corruption, and injustice in both the public and private sectors.
The NCSCN believes the Tinubu administration, “divinely orchestrated into power,” has a chance to address past mistakes and repair national unity.
With the retirement of Mr. Dauda Ali Biu, the NCSCN urges the president to scout for a competent and qualified officer from the South East to lead the FRSC, reconfiguring the para-military architectural frame.
While acknowledging political realities, the NCSCN emphasizes the importance of national integration and federal character promotion.
A review of the heads of para-military agencies shows:
– Nigerian Police Force: IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun
– Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps: Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi
– Department of State Service: Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi
– Nigeria Customs Service: Bashir Adewale Adeniyi
– Nigeria Immigration Service: Kemi Nandap
– Nigeria Correctional Service: Haliru Nababa
– Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency: Mohammed Buba Marwa
– Economic & Financial Crime Commission: Mr. Ola Olukayode
– Independent & Corrupt Practices Commission: Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu
– National Food & Drugs Administration & Control: Prof. Moji Adeyeye
The lack of representation and inclusion in the leadership of these agencies raises concerns about the adherence to the Federal Character Principle, potentially undermining national unity and cohesion.
