Ibrahim Ismail of the Nigerian Navy Islamic School, Apapa ,on Friday emerged winner of the 2022 edition of the annual Ojora Qur’an Recitation Competition .
Yusuf Kamaldeen of Arisallah Academy ,Ketu ,came second while Muhammad Idris of Subhana College,Ijora , came third in the competition held at the palace of the organiser, Oba Abdul Fatai Aromire,the Ojora of Ojora Kingdom of Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that the competition also featured a Ramadan lecture and distribution of support items to residents of Ijora.
Ismail, in his speech , thanked the royal father for the opportunity given to young people to showcase their Quranic knowledge.
“I am very happy about this annual competition and I thank the Oba Ojora for giving us, young people, the opportunity to showcase our knowledge of the Quranic ” he said.
Also speaking,Kamaludeen, appreciated the organiser of the competition ,thanking him for the generous prizes given to the winners and other participants .
He said the prizes , together with items given to residents for Ramadan, were worth milions of naira.
“I am so happy to be one of the winners in this year’s competition and hope to participate and win more in the next edition,” he said.
Aromire, in his remarks, thanked Almighty Allah for giving him the opportunity to organise the competition and give support to residents annually.
“This is not the first time of organising this competition/Ramadan Lecture among the Quranic schools within and outside this Ijora community, we have been doing it for decades.
“Also we gave out some items to residents for the month of Ramadan as laid down for believers in the Quran to share gifts to the people, the elderly, the vulnerable and the needy among us.
“We will sustain it,we will continue to do that inshallah,” Aromire said.
Sheikh Suleiman Onikijipa,Grand Mufty of Ilorin,who delivered the Ramadan lecture , urged Ijora residents to live in unity to sustain the progress in the community.
According to him, God really cherishes unity among his people and that success and progress will always dwell in any country, community or area that values unity.
“Islam does not joke with unity, there should be no tribalism, ethnicity and favouritism within our communities, for us to have progress.
“We should all go back to the beginning,and live peacefully among ourselves in our communities, towns and country and work together for progress.
“In Islam, everyone rubs shoulders during prayers at the mosque. You rib shoulders with the other person ,regardless of your status.
“Whether you are president or governor of a state, somebody must rub shoulders with you while observing your prayers.That is the sign of unity that God requires from us,” he said.
The Islamic cleric also urged Muslims to always share gifts to the needy and the less privileged in their various communities as prescribed by Islam.
NAN reports reports that winners of the competition were given cash and electronic gadgets ,while hundreds of Ijora residents received food items and other gifts at the programme..
