The Osun government says the ongoing emergency repairs of 25 roads, spanning 200 kilometres in the state will boost development and welfare of the citizens.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday  in Osogbo, the Special Adviser to Gov. Gboyega Oyetola,  on Works and Transport, Hussein Olaniyan, debunked insinuations that government was fixing the roads as ” an election bait.”
Olaniyan, who described Oyetola led-administration as “responsible and responsive”, said the government could not afford to leave its people to continue to suffer untold hardship as a result of bad roads.
He appealed to residents of the state to cooperate with the government towards ensuring prompt completion of projects before the raining season.
“There has been a questions about our motivation for doing a number of roads when election is just a few months away.
“Let us put the records straight that from the first day, we have been doing a lot and we will continue to do so till our last day in office,” Olaniyan explained.
He said the road maintenance would cut across five zones; Ife, Ilesa, Osogbo, Ikirun and Iwo.
Also, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Remi Omowaye, said the state government would continue to embark on infrastructural development of the state.
He said:  “The infrastructural deficit across the country is huge. When we came in, there was no single township road that was in good shape in Osun West.
“Today, we have fixed a number of roads in that district, including the Gbongan township road and the 25km Ara Junction to Ejigbo.
”Others are Kuta township road, Oke-Gada, as well as Ede and many more, just as we will continue to do more.
“We thank the citizens for keeping faith with us. This was a state that people didn’t believe could pay full salaries.
”But today, we are not only paying full salaries and have implemented the new national minimum wage.”
