Plateau attacks: FG donates food items, building materials to affected communities

The Federal Government has donated food items and building materials to Plateau Government for distribution to communities affected by attacks in the state.

The relief items were presented to the State Government by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Mrs Sadiya Umar Farouk, on Tuesday.

Presenting the items at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Barracks Rukuba, near Jos, Farouk said the items were meant to reduce the hardships experienced by members the affected communities.

She said the relief materials were meant for the vulnerable groups to build their resilience for peace building.

She commiserated with Gov. Lalong and Plateau people for the loss of lives, livelihoods and properties during the attacks.

The minister said President Buhari was determined to promote peace and peace building initiatives, as they were critical to sustainable development.

She said that the policies of President Buhari were people centered which seek to reduce poverty in the state.

She commended the governor for his commitment to ending insecurity in the state.

Responding,Lalong thanked President Buhari for his timely intervention to contain the security situation in the state, and for donating the relief materials .

He said the prompt deployment of more security personnel in the state helped in preventing the escalation of the security situation to other parts of the state.

In his remarks, the Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),Mr Mustapha Ahmed, disclosed that more than 15,000 people were identified for intervention in five local government areas of Jos North, Jos East, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bassa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items donated include:2,000 10 Kg bags of rice, maize and Beans; 144 Kegs of 20 litres of Vegetable oil,200 cartons of seasoning and 200 cartons of Beverages.

Other items donated were ten bails of clothes, 40 bails of Mosquito nets,1000 pieces of Mattresses, 600 bags of cement and 600 pieces of ceiling board, among others.

NAN reports that the minister also visited the Pilot Scheme of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre of the National Social Investment Programme at Obasanjo Model School, Hwolshe, Jos.
