New minimum wage: Some state governors yet to comply – NLC issues warning

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has claimed some states are yet to implement the national minimum wage almost two years after it was passed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja, at the Second Youth National Delegates conference.

However, Wabba has urged young comrades to be ready to fight against injustice and sub-standard living, as they are the greatest beneficiaries of improved wages.

He said: “Almost two years after the new national minimum wage was signed into law, some state governors have refused to pay despite the prevailing inflation.

“I call on our young comrades to see this fight against wage injustice and substandard living conditions as your own fight.

“You are the greatest beneficiaries of improved wages and conditions of living because you will enjoy these benefits longer than the older workers.

“So, roll up your sleeves, dust up your jeans, strap up your sneakers and get ready to be in the front of the barricades.”
