Another Giant Stride,Peace corps partners university of Ibadan for quality education.

The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Ibadan through the university’s Consultancy Services Unit in collaboration with the Standard Trust Educational Consulting (UICSU/STEC), towards the provisional offer of admission to all willing members of the corps to either upgrade their current academic qualifications or to acquire globally recognized certificates in other academic programmes of interest.

The National Public Relations Officer of the corps,
Patriot Millicent Umoru in a statement on Thursday, explained that the MoU was signed on Wednesday, October 30, at the University of Ibadan.

Umoru said that according to the MoU, members of PCN will be offered the unique opportunity to acquire an expedited and cost-efficient Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Post Graduate Diploma from Nigeria’s premier university, in any of the following programmes:
Peace Building and Conflict Management
Political Science and Public Administration
Mass Communication and Journalism
Industrial Relations and Personnel Management
Safety and Security Management
English and Foreign Language (French)
Transport Management
Public and International Relations.

He also said that the
MoU stipulates that all serving members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, who possess the Ordinary Level Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent, would be offered admission into the appropriate Diploma Programme.

He added that serving PCN members with University Diploma, National Diploma, NCE or their equivalents would be eligible for admission into the appropriate Advanced Diploma Programme.

” While serving PCN members with Advanced Diploma, HND, B.Sc. or their equivalents, will be admitted into the appropriate Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme. “

According to him, special considerations in addition to enjoying a highly subsidised course registration and tuition fees for all categories of the aforementioned academic programmes, all serving PCN officers who have completed the mandatory one-month Initial Training and Orientation will be eligible for admission to study Peace Building and Conflict Management at the appropriate levels, irrespective of their previous programmes of study, as the course aligns properly within the purview of operation of the Corps.

” For PCN staff seeking admission into the Advanced Diploma or PGD categories of the other academic programmes, they are required to possess lower qualifications in a related discipline.
Patriot Umoru further revealed that the MoU is part of Peace Corps of Nigeria’s efforts to enhance the academic qualifications and subsequent career progression of its teeming members nationwide.

” It is also in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 17, which relates to Expanding Access to Quality Education and Forging Partnerships for the Attainment of the SDGs, respectively.”

Umoru further said that the University Consultancy Services Unit and Standard Trust Educational Consulting (UICSU/STEC) was a public institution of higher education, which was established by the University of Ibadan Act U6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004; with its Head Office located at the University Main Campus, Oyo State..

He said that the University was currently rated among the five topmost universities in Nigeria.

According to him, the MoU states that all graduating students under the scheme will be awarded their certificates at the university’s convocation ceremony, which will take place on predetermined dates.

He disclosed that the National Management Council of the Corps directs all interested PCN officers to report at their respective State Commands to acquire further information on the method of application and other necessary requirements.

Umoru, therefore, urged all PCN members who are desirous of rising to the pinnacle of their careers with the Corps, to quickly grab the opportunity by keying into the programme.

The national public relations officer said application and registration under the programme was currently ongoing in the 36 State Commands of the Corps and the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that applications was expected to officially close on November 30, 2019.
