Humanitarian group urges sickle cells patients to abide by covid-19 preventive protocol
The Nigeria Humanitarian Action, NIHA in collaboration with Tradomed Pharmaceuticals and Ultimate Curative, has urged sickle cells patients to abide by the covid-19 precautionary protocols to avoid contracting the virus.
The National Convener of NIHA, Mr Kletsaint Akor, gave the advice in a statement to mark the 2020 World Sickle Cell Day, on Friday in Abuja.
Aluta News reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) set aside June 19, of every year as the day to celebrates the World Sickle Cell Day with the aim to support those living with sickle cell, raise awareness of the red blood cell disorder, and organise an event or fundraiser to fight it.
Akor noted that the 2020 world sickle cells day was happening at a time the Covid-19 Pandemic was ravaging the world, adding that it was germane to emphasise abiding by all the covid-19 preventive protocols would keep sickle cells patients safe.
He said that maintaining appropriate social and physical distancing, wearing face masks, and constantly washing of hands with soap or alcohol-based hand sanitizer are practices that help to keep peopl safe from the pandemic.
According to him, It is equally true that underlying illness such as sickle puts patients at risk of the pandemic.

” Nigeria Humanitarian Action, NIHA was birthed in December 12, 2019 during NIHA’s 1st Interactive Dinner at Nicon Luxury, Abuja via the resolution of over 300 state and non-state actors in the humanitarian and social service sector drawn from across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria
” With primary aim to serve as a major interface between state and non-state institutions and agencies with a mandate to initiate, organize, advocate and facilitate all social enterprises and humanitarian assistance nationwide,” Akor said
