Three MBA graduating students in the Department of Business Administration, Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi (SAZU), have showcased three innovative business models to turn entrepreneurial ideas into viable enterprises and tackle unemployment.
The business concepts, unveiled on Saturday at the Yuli Campus of the University, as part of the institution’s entrepreneurship development initiative, focused on practical solutions in digital commerce and market access, with one of the projects already at the trial stage.
Tasiu Saminu presented a business model on goat farming and digital sales, demonstrating how technology could be deployed to expand livestock businesses and connect farmers directly with potential customers.
Another graduating student, Aminu Adam, presented an e-commerce platform designed to connect smallholder farmers with markets across Northern Nigeria, potentially helping producers overcome one of the major challenges facing small-scale agriculture, access to reliable markets.
Bashir Ajingi also presented a third business concept as the MBA graduating students demonstrated how business education could be converted into practical solutions to real-world economic challenges.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Fatima Tahir who was represented by the Deputy Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Mohammed Adamu, said the university had initiated entrepreneurship programmes to equip students with practical skills needed to become self-reliant after graduation.
she said the initiative was designed to respond to the rising unemployment in the country by encouraging students to develop businesses and create opportunities for themselves and others rather than depend solely on formal employment.
On his part, the Head of the Department of Business Administration, SAZU, Dr Inuwa Mohammed, said the three business concepts reflected the importance of exposing students to practical entrepreneurship alongside conventional academic training.
One of the graduating students, Murtala Rabilu, commended the university for supporting students to develop their entrepreneurial capacity, saying the initiative had provided them with valuable knowledge and practical exposure.
Also speaking, Kawuju Baba Jibirin, Director of Commerce, Bauchi State Ministry of Commerce, who represented the commissioner, described the initiative as timely and relevant to efforts to develop the state’s economy.
Jibirin said the ministry was supporting entrepreneurship through initiatives aimed at helping businesses formalise their operations, improve access to finance and strengthen the capacity of entrepreneurs.
The exhibition unveiled the potential of MBA education to move beyond the classroom, with the graduating students using their training to develop business models that seek to address unemployment, strengthen agricultural value chains and expand digital access to markets.
