Police arrest 4 suspected robbers, truck hijackers

Ibadan, Aug. 30, 2026 (NAN) The Police Command in Oyo State has arrested four suspected robbers over alleged hijack, diversion and stealing of trucks in the state, which are then moved to receivers in Kwara.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said that the arrest of the suspects was made possible due to intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public that the syndicate intended to carry out another operation on Aug. 24 at about 11:00 p.m.
He said that the State Commissioner of Police immediately directed operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to mount an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“Acting on the directive, operatives of the VCRU swung into action and successfully intercepted a white-coloured SINO HOWO truck and arrested two male suspects, identified as Ojedokun, the motorboy, attached to the driver of the truck, and his accomplice, Ismail.
“The recovered truck had already had its bucket removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for onward delivery and sale to a criminal receiver,” the spokesperson said.
Ayanlade said that investigation revealed that the motorboy masterminded the hijacking of the truck from his master along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Ayanlade said that further investigation helped police operatives to track and arrest two other members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle and Music.
He said that the suspect identified as “Music” specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used for the identification and location of the trucks, thereby frustrating efforts to trace or recover the stolen vehicles.
Ayanlade said that efforts were currently ongoing to recover the detached buckets of the truck and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
He said that CP Abimbola Olugbenga, thanked members of the public for their timely and credible information which contributed to the arrest of the four.
