Idah (Kogi), Aug. 30, 2026 (NAN) The traditional institution of Achadu Oko Attah on Sunday conferred the title of Ogah-Achadu Oko Attah on Kogi Deputy Governor, Mr Joel Salifu.
The conferment took place at the palace of traditional ruler, Alih Yusuf Ameh Adaji III, in Idah, during activities marking the Achadu’s third anniversary.
The ceremony attracted political leaders, party supporters, traditional rulers, religious leaders and well-wishers from across Kogi.
Salifu was formally conferred with the prestigious title and thereafter saluted as ‘Dooga!’ by the Achadu Oko Attah and his clan.
The Achadu Oko Attah said the honour recognised Salifu’s contributions to his people and commitment to developing the clan and Kogi.
He described the conferment as a mark of appreciation, saying it reflected the clan’s pride in Salifu as a worthy son of Igala land.
Responding, Salifu expressed gratitude to the traditional institution, his clan, family, friends and supporters for honouring him with the title.
He pledged to continue working towards promoting peace, unity and development among the people.
The deputy governor also acknowledged Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s support, saying his principal’s confidence had created opportunities for greater recognition and service.
“I must thank him immensely. He was the one that recognised me before we started getting all these awards and recognitions,” Salifu said.
He recalled receiving the Best Deputy Governor Award for 2025 in Nigeria at an event in Abuja on Jan. 29.
“On Jan. 29 this year, I was in Abuja where I received the Best Deputy Governor Award for 2025 in Nigeria,” he said.
Salifu also appreciated former Governor, Mr Yahaya Bello, whom he described as the architect of his political journey.
He expressed appreciation for the large turnout despite heavy rainfall and the short notice of less than 12 hours before the ceremony.
The deputy governor said: “This acceptance is an encouragement to me to buckle up.
“By the special grace of God, I have a governor with listening ears who is ready to deliver the dividends of democracy. I am also ready.”
Salifu also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the administration’s development agenda at the grassroots.
Among dignitaries present were former Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja, and National Leader of Ukomu Igala Organisation, retired Maj.-Gen. James Ataguba.
Other prominent Igala sons and daughters, government officials and traditional rulers also attended the ceremony. (NAN)
