Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong, has joined Nigerians in celebrating the 2026 Democracy Day, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, its achievements, challenges and prospects for a greater future.

In his Democracy Day message, Senator Lalong noted that as one of the political actors who has actively participated in Nigeria’s democratic process since the return to civil rule in 1999, he has witnessed firsthand the growth of democratic institutions and the steady consolidation of democratic governance across the country.

He said that despite the challenges associated with democratic practice, including economic pressures, security concerns and political disagreements, Nigeria has continued to make significant progress through the resilience of its people and the commitment of successive administrations to democratic ideals.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and national renewal through the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to reposition the country for greater prosperity and stability.

Senator Lalong urged Nigerians, particularly political leaders and stakeholders across party lines, to close ranks and place national interest above personal and partisan considerations. He stressed that democracy can only flourish when leaders work together in the public interest and citizens remain actively engaged in the governance process.

The former Governor also expressed appreciation to the people of Plateau South Senatorial District for their continued support and confidence in his leadership. He assured them that he would continue to provide quality representation, attract development initiatives and pursue policies that improve the welfare of the people.

Senator Lalong further pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him following his emergence as the candidate of his party for the forthcoming senatorial election, assuring constituents that he remains committed to delivering effective leadership and service in the Senate.
