Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he believes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would perform better as President of Nigeria than the current President, Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview with Trust TV on Monday, May 18, 2026, and was monitored by our correspondent in Onitsha, Amaechi stated that he believes Atiku would govern Nigeria effectively if given the opportunity, adding that the former vice president would not lead with tribal sentiments.
Amaechi also praised Peter Obi, saying he has the qualities needed to lead the country successfully. According to him, both Obi and Atiku possess the capacity to govern Nigeria better than the current administration.
In his words: “I am not joking. If you give this country to Vice President Atiku to govern, I believe he will do well. I also think Governor Obi will do well. Honestly, both of them will do better than President Tinubu.”
The comments have continued to generate reactions across Nigeria’s political space as discussions ahead of the 2027 general election intensify.
