The Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 senatorial elections following the conduct of the party primaries.
Chairperson of the APC Primary Elections Committee, Stella Okotete, announced Senator Lalong as the winner of the primary election for Plateau South Senatorial District after the exercise conducted.
With this development, Senator Lalong, who currently represents Plateau South in the Senate, will fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
The outcome has sparked celebrations among party faithful and supporters across the senatorial district, with many describing his emergence as a reflection of the confidence reposed in his leadership and representation at the National Assembly over the past two years.
Supporters say Senator Lalong has continued to demonstrate commitment to the growth of the APC in Plateau State and has delivered quality representation to the people of Plateau South, thereby earning another opportunity to continue serving in the Senate.
Widely regarded as one of the most experienced political leaders from Plateau State, Senator Lalong is expected to continue bringing his wealth of experience and leadership to bear in the 10th Senate and in national development.
Senator Lalong’s public service record includes serving as former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, former Governor of Plateau State, former Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, former Minister of Labour and Employment, and former Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
Before the coming of Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the APC, Senator Lalong was the leader of the party in Plateau State and stood firm to nuture it to growth and wide acceptance despite several challenges.
