BREAKING: INEC Delivers Verdict on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Recall Petition

In a significant development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally rejected the petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. The decision was reached during the Commission’s regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

The petition, which was submitted with six bags of documents purportedly containing signatures from over half of the 474,554 registered voters in the district, was deemed incomplete due to the petitioners’ failure to provide essential contact information.

Specifically, INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines require petitioners to provide their contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses in the covering letter. However, the petitioners only provided a vague address, “Okene, Kogi State,” and a single telephone number belonging to the lead petitioner.

INEC has reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to the legal framework governing the recall process and has urged the public to disregard speculation and misinformation circulating on social media.

In a statement signed by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission emphasized that it will only proceed with the recall process if the petitioners comply with the requirements outlined in the Regulations and Guidelines.

This development underscores INEC’s dedication to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and its commitment to upholding the rule of law.
