The Presidency has clarified that the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, did not propose a minimum wage of N105,000 as reported by some media outlets. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that the story is false.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu directed Edun to present a budgetary proposal on a new minimum wage figure and analysis within 48 hours. In response, Edun submitted the report to the President on Thursday, accompanied by other officials.

The actual minimum wage figure proposed by the Minister of Finance has not been officially disclosed yet.

This development comes amidst ongoing negotiations between the government and organized labor on a new national minimum wage. The labor unions had proposed figures ranging from N494,000 to N615,500, which the government deemed unrealistic. The federal government has committed to a minimum wage higher than N60,000.”
