The National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Campaign Organisation/Directorate of Women Mobilisation and Empowerment, Hon. Princess Gloria Akobundu, has commended President Bola Tinubu for creating opportunities for women to participate in governance, political activities and national development.
Akobundu also called for stronger mobilisation of women across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to take advantage of available opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the country’s democratic process.
She made the remarks following the Pre-Inaugural Summit and Women’s Empowerment Programme organised by the APC Women Campaign Organisation/Directorate of Women Mobilisation and Empowerment at the Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The summit brought together women leaders, party stakeholders and other participants to discuss strategies for strengthening women’s participation in politics, governance and national development.
Akobundu said the establishment and restructuring of the organisation reflected a renewed commitment to building a coordinated and inclusive platform for women’s political participation and empowerment within the APC.
She noted that Nigerian women had continued to play significant roles in grassroots mobilisation, community development, public administration, entrepreneurship and political advocacy, stressing that their contributions deserved greater recognition and institutional support.
According to her, women’s participation in governance should go beyond appointments to public offices to include involvement in policy formulation, leadership development, political mobilisation and decision-making processes.
She maintained that women possess the organisational abilities, resilience, administrative experience and grassroots connections needed to contribute to effective governance and national development.
Akobundu urged women not to limit their participation to election campaigns but to remain actively involved in political activities and governance before, during and after elections.
She called on women across the country to strengthen their participation in party structures, policy discussions, voter education, community engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
