The Director of Women Mobilisation, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, has said women constitute a major voting bloc in Nigeria and their support would be crucial to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Edu spoke with journalists at the weekend in Calabar ahead of tomorrow’s APC Presidential Campaign Council Women Stakeholders’ Summit in Abuja.
She said the mobilisation of women across the country was being intensified ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“When we put our strength together and unite behind our President and his wife, victory is certain,” she said.
Edu said the directorate’s grassroots strategy was focused on sustained engagement with women and households across communities, with its mobilisation structure covering 176,846 communities nationwide.
She said APC women were targeting 40 million votes for President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
“It is a 100-day sprint, and we will not relent until victory is achieved for President Tinubu. Our strength is in our numbers,” she said.
According to her, the Abuja summit is convened by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and women stakeholders have converged for the formal commencement of its 2027 presidential campaign activities.
She described the summit as an important platform for strengthening the party’s women mobilisation structure nationwide.
“The summit will provide an opportunity to empower women and further strengthen grassroots structures,” she said.
Edu, however, said grassroots mobilisation would continue alongside the summit, with women engaging communities across the country.
“Most of the delegates from the states have already arrived in Abuja, and more are expected. But our community engagements and door-to-door mobilisation have continued across the country,” she said.
