The Ambassador Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, adherence to the rule of law, national unity and the protection of the democratic rights of every Nigerian
The assertion was made by YAN under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Alhassan Adamu, in a press statement it issued to Journalists late Sunday evening.
YAN stressed that it considers matters relating to national security too serious to be reduced to political arguments, speculation or media propaganda.
According to YAN, Nigerians deserve to know the truth, and no individual should be condemned or declared guilty merely on the basis of allegations.
It therefore called on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and transparent investigation into the allegations of backing insecurity reportedly associated with Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Senator representing Bauchi South and the 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State.
Alhassan Adamu, “We therefore respectfully call on the appropriate security and investigative authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and make their findings known to the Nigerian public.”
He stressed that, “Our position is simple and guided by the principles of justice and fairness.”
The YAN stressed that, “If Senator Shehu Buba Umar is found to have committed any offence, he should be made to face the full weight of the law, in accordance with due process.”
According to him, “If, however, the investigation establishes that he has no case to answer, he should be publicly cleared and his name restored.”
“YAN Bauchi believes that transparency is essential for maintaining public confidence in our security institutions and democratic system. Keeping Nigerians in the dark about serious allegations can create unnecessary suspicion, tension and misinformation,” it aded.
He added that, “We are not calling for the persecution of Senator Shehu Buba, nor are we prejudging the outcome of any investigation. We are simply calling for the truth to be established through a competent and impartial process.”
He added, “We therefore urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security and investigative institutions to take the matter seriously and provide Nigerians with a clear and credible outcome.”
The people of Bauchi State and Nigerians at large deserve truth, justice, transparency and accountability.
