Varsity inaugurates women’s association, offers free medical services

Reaffirming the adage that behind every successful man is a woman, the Federal University of Education Pankshin Women’s Association (FUEPAWA) has been officially inaugurated, marking the occasion by offering free medical services to staff and students.
This was contained in a statement released on Friday in Pankshin, by Mr. Charles Homsuk, the Deputy Director and Information and Public Relations Officer of the university.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of the university, Prof. Noel Wannang, inaugurated the executive members of the association on Wednesday, and acknowledged the vital role women play in making the world a better place.
Prof. Wannang commended women for their crucial contributions to stabilising households, the academic environment, and society at large.
He reassured the association of the university management’s commitment to supporting progressive initiatives that prioritise human capacity and community care.
In her acceptance speech, the President of FUEPAWA, Mrs. Vivian Wannang, expressed profound gratitude for the honour bestowed upon her to lead the association alongside other dedicated executive members.
She stated that her administration would prioritise five key areas: welfare and unity, capacity building and empowerment, health and wellness, community service and impact, and organisational growth.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the planning committee, Dr. Adenike Odewumi, gave a brief history of the association, noting that it was first conceived back in 1999 by the late Martha Bulus.
Dr. Odewumi explained that the association aims to foster unity, peace, and development among the institution’s female staff, irrespective of their status.
She added that the association was historically spearheaded by the wives of the institution’s chief executives, assisted by the wives of the registrars.
She further noted that following the institution’s conversion and upgrade from a college to a university, the association has now been transformed, rebranded, and rechristened as FUEPAWA.
The inauguration also featured a presentation by Prof. Zipporah Duguryil titled “United We Rise: Building a Brighter Tomorrow Today,” while Dr. Elekwachi Victor and Dr. Okan Adara spoke on “Breast and Cervical Cancer.”
In addition, a goodwill message on women’s inclusion and gender equity in governance was delivered by Hon. Jiritmwa Goyit, the Liaison Officer for the Kanke Constituency, who represented the Deputy Governor of Plateau State.
Other notable dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Ishaya Dilkit, representing the Chairman of Pankshin LGA; the Commander of the FRSC Pankshin; Prof. Dung Mohammed, Chairman of the Committee of Deans; and Mr. Longtong Yadok, the Registrar of FUEP, among many others.
The event also featured free medical tests and barbing services, organised in collaboration with the Students’ Union Government (SUG). (NAN)
