The James Movel Faith and Care Humanitarian Foundation (JMFCHF) has distributed and planted 40 indigenous tree seedlings across five churches in Kakuri, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The initiative, led by the foundation’s founder, Rev. Dr. James Movel Wuye, was aimed at promoting environmental conservation and encouraging faith communities to take action against deforestation and climate change.
The beneficiary churches include Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Christian Missions in Many Lands (CMML), Calvary Baptist Church, Assembly of God Northern Nigeria (AGNN) and Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), all located in Kakuri.
The foundation distributed two indigenous tree species — shea butter (Vitellaria paradoxa) and African black plum (Vitex doniana).
According to the foundation, the trees were selected because of their resilience in the local climate, as well as their environmental, nutritional, medicinal and economic importance.
Community members joined Rev. Wuye in delivering and planting the trees within the church premises, underscoring the need for collective responsibility in protecting the environment.
The foundation said the initiative was designed to demonstrate how places of worship could contribute to sustainable development and environmental protection.
It added that planting trees in the church premises would provide shade, beautify the sacred grounds and contribute to efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The initiative also sought to strengthen the connection between religious devotion and environmental stewardship within the Kakuri community.
