Adamawa govt approves contracts, procurements for development projects worth N5bn

Yola, Sept. 2, 2026 (NAN) The Adamawa government has approved contracts and procurements for development projects across the state worth N5 billion.

Mr Leader Leneke, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the approvals were made at the 13th State Executive Council Meeting on Wednesday in Yola.

Leneke said the council, presided over by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, also approved N1.752 billion for the construction of office blocks at the Adamawa State Post-Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Yola.

The commissioner said the sum of N627.696 million was approved for the construction of Road networks, drainage systems, culverts and other internal services at the Mega Science and Technical Secondary School, Hong, in Hong Local Government Area.

According to him, the project is part of the state government’s programme to establish Mega Science and Technical Secondary Schools across the three Senatorial Districts.

He announced that the sum of N2.198 billion was also approved for the procurement of 46,300 bags of assorted fertilisers for the state’s dry-season farming.

Leneke said the procurement was aimed at supporting farmers and sustaining agricultural production by taking advantage of both rainy and dry seasons.

The commissioner stated that the council had approved N381.656 million for the engagement of a consulting firm to provide pre- and post-construction services for a counter-terrorism base in Madagali.

He said the initiative was aimed at strengthening security and preventing the resurgence of terrorist activities, particularly in areas that had previously experienced security challenges.

Leneke said that the council had also approved N78.952 million for the procurement of herbicides and pesticides to support agricultural activities across the state.

In the mining sector, the commissioner said the council approved a memo from the Ministry of Mineral Resources for the renewal of the state’s mining licence.

He said that the council had directed relevant authorities to intensify sensitisation campaigns following predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) against imminent flooding threats.

According to him, Adamawa is among the states expected to experience flooding, particularly communities located along the River Benue and River Gongola. He, therefore, urged residents of riverine communities to remain vigilant and heed government warnings to relocate to safer areas whenever necessary.

Leneke also called on the media to intensify public enlightenment to ensure that residents, particularly those in flood-prone communities, were adequately informed and prepared.

On security, he said that the council had expressed concern over recent developments in some parts of the state, including reports of killings and other suspected security breaches.

The commissioner said the restoration of peace and security remained one of the major achievements of Fintiri’s administration, adding that the prevailing relative peace had enabled residents to conduct their businesses and sleep peacefully.

He urged residents to report unfamiliar persons and suspected criminals in their communities, saying citizens had an important role to play in supporting security agencies.

Leneke said the various approvals and decisions reached at the council demonstrated the administration’s continued commitment to improving education, agriculture, infrastructure and security across the state. (NAN) www.nannews.ng.com
