Lagos, Sept. 1, 2026 (NAN) Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos State, has launched a ₦250 million fundraising campaign to procure critical medical equipment and improve healthcare delivery.
The campaign was unveiled on Tuesday during the hospital’s 2026 Donors’ Appreciation Day, with the theme ‘Your Giving, Their Hope and Healing.’
Medical Director, Dr Akinyele Akinlade, said the initiative would strengthen services while making treatment more accessible to vulnerable residents.
Akinlade, who assumed leadership in May, said management had introduced clinical and operational improvements to meet rising patient demand.
“We have procured a modern electrocardiogram machine with a dedicated technician,” he said.
He explained that the equipment had brought diagnostic services directly to bedridden patients in the hospital wards.
“We also acquired a new echocardiogram machine, increasing monthly echo tests from 20 to approximately 100,” Akinlade said.
He added that laboratory capacity had been expanded to provide essential diagnostics, including HbA1c testing, on a 24-hour basis.
“This prevents out-of-pocket costs for patients who would otherwise seek such services at private centres,” the medical director said.
Akinlade said other improvements included new physiotherapy equipment, three automatic delivery beds and establishment of a fast-track clinic.
He added that more than 90 per cent of the hospital’s suspended ceilings had also been renovated as part of ongoing upgrades.
Dr Rukayat Bakare, Chairman of the Alimosho and Friends Committee, stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening healthcare delivery.
Bakare said government alone could not adequately meet the healthcare needs of Lagos’ growing population.
“Government alone cannot shoulder the health needs of our teeming population,” she said.
She commended donors for supporting emergency surgeries, providing medicines and helping indigent patients settle medical bills.
Bakare said the ₦250 million target would fund several priority projects aimed at expanding the hospital’s diagnostic and specialist services.
She listed a ₦60 million automated tissue processor, mammography and upgraded X-ray machines among the equipment required.
She also identified expansion of the dialysis centre to 20 beds as another priority under the fundraising initiative.
The Chairman of the event, Dr Olushola Odunuga, commended the hospital’s fundraising drive and the impact of previous donations.
Odunuga, Commissioner II at the Lagos State Health Service Commission, said donations had helped patients unable to afford medical bills.
He urged individuals and organisations to complement government efforts by supporting affordable and accessible healthcare through sustained donations.
The event also featured recognition of donors whose contributions had supported healthcare delivery and humanitarian interventions at the hospital.
Recognised donors included Supreme Centre of God, Muslim Volunteer Foundation, Sisters of Grace, Deep Living Saints, Treasure Peace and The Wisha Foundation. (NAN)
