Abuja, Aug. 28, 2026 (NAN) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections has said that reinstating fuel subsidy would depend on the situation on ground if he becomes president.
Abubakar made the clarification in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The former vice-president’s new position represents a significant shift from his initial promise to restore fuel subsidy immediately he is sworn in, if he clinches the seat in the general elections.
The 79-year-old Abubakar said that a 100 per cent withdrawal of fuel subsidy was not right, rather, it should be a gradual process after consultation with workers and other stakeholders.
