2027 : Onuigbo cites Tinubu’s reforms, seeks second term

Ikwuano (Abia) The President of GLOBE Legislators International, Chief Sam Onuigbo, on Friday unveiled the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that GLOBE stands for Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment.
It is an international network of parliamentarians focused on environmental legislation, sustainable development, and climate action.
Onuigbo addressed stakeholders of the Odozi Obodo Campaign Organisation at his country home in Obuohia Obi, Ikwuano Local Council of Abia.
He expressed appreciation to members for their support and urged a committed approach to the campaigns ahead of the Jan. 16, 2027 presidential election.
Onuigbo said the stakes were higher now due to the bold reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said that Tinubu deserved the support of every genuine member of All Progressives Congress and Nigerian to consolidate the foundation already laid.
Onuigbo, a former member of House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/ Umuahia South, listed the removal of fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023 as one of the president’s decisive early actions.
He noted that Federation Account Allocation Committee allocations to the three tiers rose from N711 billion in 2023 to N4.5 trillion in 2026.
He added that governors now received about five times more, driving rapid development in Abia and other states.
The two-term former federal lawmaker said Nigeria’s refining capacity increased from 30,000 barrels per day in 2023 to over 700,000 barrels per day in 2026.
He stated that crude oil production had risen to 1.73 million barrels per day, exceeding the OPEC quota.
The former Commissioner for Finance in Abia, disclosed that foreign reserves grew from $3.99 billion in 2023 to $51.9 billion in 2026.
He added that over N300 billion had been invested in students through Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Onuigbo said the president’s foreign trips had attracted over $50 billion in foreign direct investment, including $20 billion in 2026.
He attributed the inflows to the end of the parallel exchange rate market and growing investor confidence.
He cited Gross Domestic Product growth from 2.74 per cent in 2023 to 3.9 per cent in the first half of 2026, driven by non-oil sectors.
He highlighted inclusive governance in the South-East, including appointments of service chiefs and the establishment of the South East Development Commission.
The former legislator also mentioned the approval of Abia Airport, expansion of Enugu and Owerri airports, and reconstruction of federal roads in the zone.
He said he facilitated the restoration of delisted courses at Michael Okpara University, Umudike and the construction of a federal secretariat in Umuahia after 35 years.
He urged stakeholders to work harder, saying Tinubu’s second term should matter more than personal political aspirations.
NAN reports that Chief Williams Ukatu, Director-General of Odozi Obodo Campaign Organisation, moved a motion adopting Tinubu as the sole candidate for 2027.
The motion was seconded by Mrs Odochi Odor and Tinubu was unanimously adopted by voice vote.
In her remarks, Mrs Nnenna Aaron said Onuigbo had enlightened them on the president’s global impact, especially NELFUND which had helped students stay in school.
Also, Mr Henry Okezie said the group would deliver the six local government areas in Abia Central for Tinubu in 2027.
Other speakers affirmed that Tinubu had performed well in his first term and pledged support for his re-election.(NAN)www.nannews.ng
