Ikorodu (Lagos State), Aug. 27, 2026 (NAN) Mr Olawale Apanisile, Chairman, Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has called for stronger collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs) and the Community Development Committee (CDC) to accelerate development in the area.
Apanisile made the call on Thursday at a community engagement meeting with CDAs and the CDC in Ikorodu North.
He appreciated community leaders for their continued partnership with his administration, saying their cooperation was critical to achieving sustainable development at the grassroots.
The chairman said the council had recorded achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, road construction, solarised water facilities and the procurement of an ambulance.
He said the council would continue to identify areas of need and implement projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
“We appreciate the continued support and partnership of our community leaders.
“Together, we have recorded progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, road construction and the provision of solarised water facilities.
“We are committed to doing more and we need the continued cooperation of our CDAs and CDC to achieve greater development for our people,” he said.
Apanisile also commended Mr Babajimi Benson, member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for his support and contributions to the development of Ikorodu North.
He called for more interventions that would positively impact residents.
The chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to responsive governance, stronger community partnerships and sustainable development.
He said the council would continue to engage stakeholders to identify and address issues affecting residents.
Also speaking, Mr Gafar Bolowotan, APC candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency I, appreciated residents for their support during the party’s primary election.
Bolowotan appealed for continued support for him and other APC candidates ahead of the forthcoming general election.
“I appreciate the people of Ikorodu North for the support given to me during the primary election.
“I appeal for your continued support as we move forward, because with your support, we can achieve more for our communities,” he said.
Benson commended Apanisile, the CDAs and CDC for their commitment to grassroots development.
He urged community stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents.
“Community development requires collective effort, and I urge all stakeholders to sustain their support for development initiatives in Ikorodu North,” he said.
Mr Deen Sanwoola, Director-General, Icare Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, stressed the need for regular engagement between government and community development groups.
Sanwoola said continuous interaction would strengthen grassroots participation and enable government to better understand residents’ needs.
Responding on behalf of community, Mr Tunde Adebayo, a CDA chairman, commended the council for engaging community leaders, saying the initiative would promote effective grassroots development.
He said the engagement provided an opportunity for community leaders to present their needs directly to the council.
Another CDA chairman, Mr Kayode Balogun, urged the council to sustain its partnership with community associations.
Balogun said regular consultations with CDAs and the CDC would enable the government to better understand and address residents’ needs.
A resident, Mrs Funmilayo Adeyemi, also commended the council for its interventions in roads, water and healthcare.
She urged the council and other stakeholders to sustain the interventions and do more in areas where residents were still facing challenges.
