Abuja, Aug. 24, 2026 (NAN) Amb. Saidu Muhammad, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to India has presented his Letters of Credence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.
The presentation ceremony took place on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the Indian President.
This is contained in a statement issued by by the Nigerian High Commission in India and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Muhammad conveyed the goodwill and best wishes of President Bola Tinubu to Murmu, pledging to strengthen Nigeria-India bilateral relations.
He said his priorities would include deepening economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The High Commissioner described his appointment as both a privilege and responsibility to advance Nigeria’s interests and consolidate longstanding bilateral ties.
He noted that Nigeria-India relations extended beyond political and diplomatic engagements to economic, commercial, cultural, educational and people-to-people ties.
Muhammad expressed his determination to encourage greater Indian investment in Nigeria, facilitate stronger business-to-business engagement and promote Nigerian enterprises’ access to the Indian market.
In her remarks, Murmu welcomed Muhammad to India and congratulated him on his appointment as Nigeria’s High Commissioner.
She highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and India, describing the ties as founded on strong historical bonds, mutual respect and shared interests.
Murmu stressed the importance of the economic and commercial relationship between the two countries, noting India’s position as a major business and trading partner of Nigeria.
She said there was considerable potential to expand trade, investment and economic cooperation between Nigeria and India.
The Indian President also appreciated the contributions of Indian businesses and investors to Nigeria’s economic development.
She underscored the need to encourage stronger private-sector engagement between the two countries to deepen economic cooperation.
Murmu expressed confidence that Muhammad’s tenure would contribute positively to consolidating and further developing Nigeria-India relations, while wishing him success in the discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities.
Murmu also received the credentials of five other ambassadors from; South Sudan, , United Arab Emirates (UAE), Moldova, Germany and Sweden during the ceremony. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
