Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi picked Ibrahim Muhammad Augie to be his running mate in next year’s elections after dropping the incumbent, Umar Abubakar, Tafidan Kabbi.
Addressing the gathering of APC faithfuls from Argungu Emirate, Governor Idris said the decision to drop his incumbent was in good faith following the legal tussle surrounding the Deputy during the 2023 polls which lasted up to the Supremes Court.
He said the replacement was with the consent of the incumbent who was even requested to pick his successor from Argungu Emirate which led to the emergence of Ibrahim Muhammad Augie, a former Commissioner of Finance.
Governor Idris however stressed that he had no grudges against the Deputy either personal or as a political ally, noting that because of his wealth of experience as a unionist his open door policy strengthened his heart to seamlessly work with people from all works of life.
He said whatever decision taken was in the interest of securing success to the APC ruling party both at the Federal and State levels to consolidate the provisions of dividends of democracy as well as pave way for new ones come 2027.
The State Chief Executive explained that with the level of developmental projects spread across the state and Argungu Emirate in particular, the people would have no choice but to turn out en mass to return APC into office as a reciprocal gesture.
Speaking earlier, the National Organizing Secretary of APC, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, said the Governor had carried the people of the Emirate along while taking the decision to replace the incumbent Deputy with Ibrahim Muhammad Augie.
He assured Governor Idris of their unflinching loyalty to his Administration and would work acidulously to ensure mass voting in his favour and that of the President next year.
