Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a father and his three children for allegedly beating a 47-year old farmer, Yakubu Mai-Duna, of Kumba village in Burra Emirate of Ningi LGA of Bauchi State to death.
The confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the Command PPRO, SP Nafiu Habib, made available to Journalists Monday evening.
He wrote that the development was following “a case of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and culpable homicide that occurred on 26th July 2026 at about 1440hrs in Kumba Village, Sama District, Burra Emirate of Ningi LGA.”
According to him, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between Yakubu Mai-Duna, a 47-years-old and Kabiru Yusuf, aged 40 years, both of Kumba Village.
The PPRO stated that,”The altercation reportedly began when Mai-Duna allegedly dumped weeds from his farm into Yusuf’s farm.”
“The disagreement subsequently degenerated into a physical confrontation involving both parties and their children,” he added.
According to him, “During the scuffle, Kabiru Yusuf and his three sons; Abdulrazak Yusuf, 25-years-old, Salisu Kabiru, 15-years-old, and Safiyanu Kabiru, 20-years-old allegedly conspired and inflicted grievous injuries on Yakubu Mai-Duna and on one Usman Gagare, 48-years-old, who had intervened to rescue Mai-Duna.”
Nafiu Habib added that,”On receipt of the report, operatives of Burra Division responded swiftly. The suspects were arrested, while the victims were evacuated to the Primary Healthcare Centre, Yada-Gungume, for treatment. Regrettably, Yakubu Mai-Duna later died on admission, whereas Usman Gagare was treated and discharged.”
The PPRO disclosed that the case is currently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department(SCIID) Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has urged members of the public to embrace dialogue and lawful channels in resolving disputes, and to desist from acts of jungle justice.
He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the State.
