A group of people who claimed to be supporters of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, have announced their decision to shift their support and loyalty to the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
The group led by Musa Abdullahi, who said he is one of the Coordinators of the former Minister, made the decision public while addressing Journalists at the Conference Hall of the NUJ Press Center, Bauchi.
According to him, their decision was informed by the reason to ensure that the APC candidate emerged victorious in the 2027 general elections in order to return to power in the State.
He added that, “We are ready to support the APC and its candidate, the primary election has been conducted and a winner has emerged, we must rally round him to succeed.”
Musa Abdullahi stated that, “We are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), supporters of the firmer Minster of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar who is a foundation member of the APC since 2014.”
He added that, “He led us from the CPC into the APC and we have remained in the party. He contested for the party gubernatorial ticket but lost to MA Abubakar, SAN.”
According to him, “We have accepted the outcome in good faith and have already expressed our support and loyalty to him (MA Abubakar SAN) in line with the constitution of the party.”
He however condemned the recent press conference held by the leadership of the Tuggar Foundation against the outcome of the gubernatorial candidature of MA Abubakar, SAN, claiming that it was not done with the consent of Yusuf Tuggar.
According to him, “Those who addressed the conference did that on their own volition as they neither spoke to Tuggar nor got written consent from him. He has not express move to leave the APC which he helped to build.”
Asked if he got the consent of Yusuf Tuggar to address the press and announce any decision, he said, “No, I am not speaking for him, he is out of the country and could not be reached. He is not aware we are here.”
“We are here as members of his support groups, we are here to let the world know that we are behind the candidature of MA Abubakar, SAN as the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in 2027 general elections,” he added.
