A night fire outbreak has destroyed substantial part of the residence of the Managing Director of the Sokoto Rima River Basin ana Rural Development (SRRBRDA), Abubakar Malam Shattiman Gwandu in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi,
The fire outbreak, according to an eye witness, Malam Zubairu Tatu, a neighbour to the MD, revealed that the fire started around 3:00am up to 5:00am on Monday before the resilience of the fire Service and concerned neighbours smouldered the inferno.
“It was frightening as we abrubtly woke up from the weekend sleep to discover fire flames coming from the roof of the MD’s house around 3:00am. We had to jump over the fence on rescue mission before the arrival of Fire Service.
“We also evacuated all our properties in our rooms and compounds behind the MD’s house to avoid the spraid of the fire as well secure our belongings”, he added.
Sympathisers comprising of the Secretary to the Kebbi State government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, Speaker Kebbi House of Assembly, top government officials, politicians and journalists stormed the house to sympathise with the MD over the unfortunate incident.
The MD who conducted journalists round to assess the damages, disclosed that there was no life lost but household and other personal belongings, as well as structural edifice worth unspecified amount of money were destroyed by the inferno.
He thanked all those who visited and sympathized with him, including those who called or sent messages to him over the incident.
