Bauchi State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has made an
unprecedented arrests and seizures of 2.248.591kgs equivalent to 2 tons of assorted banned and hard drugs in the last Seven months.
The seized drugs included Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine; the popular ICE, Rophynol, Crack cocaine, Tramadol, Codeine Cough Syrups and the likes.
The disclosure was made by the State Commander of NDLEA, Commander of Narcotics, Hassan Yaqub, while addressing a press conference to comemurate the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held at the Bauchi State Command on Friday.
He said, “Today is yet another day, we are marking and equally assessing our operations to know if we are lagging in terms of our collective efforts in the fight against drugs in Bauchi State and environs. This year’s theme is “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses”.
He added, “To all, it is worthy to note that there is nexus between drug and crime, hence the need for us to join hands to fight and tackle this wicked cankerworms. Guardians and families cries and equally lose their loved ones to drugs.”
According to him, “Drugs is a gateway and mother of all crimes, to this end we in NDLEA are firm, standing and doing all it akes to fight back for the larger society to be at rest.”
The Commander further said that, “However, my entire team and I, remain resolute and committed to
fight, arrest and seize drugs and properties of any person or persons found in this shady and nefarious business deals.”
Hassan Yaqub said that, ‘It is worthy to note once more, I came on board to pilot the affairs of the Command on the 31st October, 2025 virtually Seven months now. With the hardworking, commitment and resilience of my dogged Officers and Men.”
According to him, “It is worthy to note that uncompressing stands, has made this arrests and seizures possible within this period, and I am assuring you that we shall continue in this direction to unravel more and more. We shall not be distracted by any person or quota in doing what
know best.”
He urged all stakeholders to join the moving train in the quest to fight the nefarious and blood suckers, so that they can relocate to other states, because ‘Bauchi State is gonna be hotter in
nearest future for drug dealers and their cohorts.”
On prosecution, he disclosed that,”So far our prosecution unit, is also not left out in the fight
against drugs, as at present, our conviction stood at 79. Awaiting trial is 74, New Filed Cases 105 while presently on detention are 12 while suspects.
He also disclosed that a cannabis Sativa farm was discovered around Bogoro LGA with an arrest of One person and seizure of 108kg of cannabis sativa.
On drug demand reduction, care, treatment and rehabilitation, the Commander stated that, “The care, treatment and rehabilitation unit/centre, is also up and doing in terms of putting its best to our drug dependent in order to shape their lives for them to be reintegrated back to the society to further become good and acceptable members.’
He revealed that, “Between November, 2025 and June, 2026 a total number of 67 drug dependent persons were treated and rehabilitated, while a total number of 12 persons are currently receiving counseling and rehabilitation services in residential basis.”
Speaking on war against drug abuse (WADA), Hassan Yaqub stated that,”WADA activities have been wonderful as the Command has carried out over 300 sensitization programmes in Churches, Mosques, Motor Parks, Schools etc and we were able to reach out to about 1.5 million target audience across the State capital and the 20 Local Government Areas.”
