IG inaugurates violent crime response unit in Kebbi

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, for Kebbi State, with warning to criminal elements to think twice in their penchant for crime and criminality.

The IG also supervised the passing out of tactically retrained Police Constables into Mobile Police Force in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

Represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police supervising North West Zone, Suleiman Muhammad Abdul, the Police Boss, reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to professionalism, training and welfare for personnel.

“Police operations in Nigeria is moving away from conventional retroactive approach to proactive strategies, applying modern digital technology

“We commend the personnel for bravery and pushing hard, they are the pride of the Force.

“The essence of establishing the VCRU in all Police Commands nationwide, is to tackle criminals head-on and deny them escape route”, Disu said.

The IG also sounded word of caution to all Police personnel to imbibe accountability and respect for human rights, warning that the Police has adopted zero tolerance for unprofessional misconduct.

He also charged the officers to embrace Artificial Intelligence and digital innovations in modern policing, noting that technology remained a critical tool in improving crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and the fight against crimes and criminality.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, requested the Police High Command to supply drones, tracking devices and other logistics to the Kebbi Command to facilitate crime prevention and control in the state.

Six vehicles including an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, as well as five motorcycles were allocated to the VCRU, comprising of 436 retrained Police Constables who underwent tactical training in musketry and other operational skills aimed at enhancing their capacity in crime prevention and response. as a starter, with Superintendent Abubakar Muhammad Dogondaji, as the pioneer Commander.
