NYCN hails court verdict on registration, reinstatement of Sokubo-led BoT

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has welcomed the court verdict upholding the council’s registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and reinstating its Board of Trustees (BoT).

NYCN President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-igbe Sukubo, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the ruling reaffirmed the efficacy of the rule of law.

“We commend the judiciary for this fair verdict; as the 2027 general election approaches, NYCN will continue to mobilise young people for voter education, community development, and conflict resolution,’’ he said.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja recently ordered the CAC to restore the registration of NYCN and reinstate Sukubo and other members of its BoT.

The court also directed that the interim management committee led by Buhari Shehu, appointed by the CAC and the Ministry of Youth Development to oversee the affairs of the council, be immediately disbanded, declaring its constitution and continued operation unlawful.

Justice Binta Nyako , who delivered the judgment held that the CAC, as a regulatory agency, lacked the statutory powers to determine the tenure of leaders of an organisation or to constitute an Interim Management Committee for any registered association.

The CAC had in Oct. 6, 2025, withdrawn the NYCN certificate of registration.
