The directors and coordinators of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) on Thursday gathered in Pankshin, Plateau, to brainstorm on issues affecting students.
Mrs Bolanle Yusuf, Head Training at the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Jos Area Office, chaired the quarterly meeting at the
Federal University of Education (FUE) Pankshin.
“We are here to brainstorm on issues that affect SIWES planning, coordination, implementation, and execution in our institutions of learning.
“When we brainstorm, we try to find solutions to any issues affecting the programme because any issues affecting SIWES affect our students.
“Our findings will be reported back to the ITF and to the Federal Government so that those issues will be tackled at that level,”
Yusuf said.
She explained that SIWES was aimed at bridging the gap between theories and practicals, as well as exposing students to real and practical experiences, which would enhance their efficiency after graduation.
Prof. Noel Wannang, Vice Chancellor, FUE Pankshin, welcomed representatives of SIWES from the different institutions across Plateau.
Wannang expressed appreciation to the ITF for its efforts at ensuring the take-off of SIWES at the university, noting that it would simplify complex theories with practicals.
According to him, ITF has always been moulders of prospects, character, and students’ future.
Mr Longtong Yadok, Registrar of the institution,, who also spoke at the meeting, welcomed all the guests abd wished them fruitful deliberations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that ITF also presented awards to some coordinators of the SIWES programme, across the various institutions, for outstanding performance.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr Danwanzam Goteng thanked the ITF for the award, promising to put in more efforts towards the success of the programme. (NAN)
