Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, has defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, describing him as a respected spiritual leader who has consistently promoted peace, unity, and national harmony.
In a statement shared on his official X account on June 4, 2026, Obi praised Adeboye’s long-standing commitment to values such as love, reconciliation, prayer, and peaceful coexistence.
According to Obi, Pastor Adeboye has always responded to criticism and provocation with humility, wisdom, and restraint, making him one of Nigeria’s most respected religious figures.
The former Anambra State Governor also stressed that the responsibility of transforming Nigeria should rest on the younger generation rather than elderly national leaders.
He noted that expecting an 84-year-old cleric to lead protests or carry out responsibilities that belong to younger citizens is unfair. Obi urged Nigerian youths to take ownership of the nation’s future by driving reforms, leading meaningful conversations, and championing positive change.
Furthermore, Obi warned against individuals who publicly preach unity while secretly promoting division for personal or political gain. He cautioned Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used as tools to spread hatred or undermine national unity.
He concluded by encouraging young people to critically assess information, verify claims before accepting them, and resist attempts to manipulate them through ethnic, religious, or political sentiments.
Obi emphasized that the Nigeria citizens desire can only be achieved through unity, mutual understanding, and a collective commitment to the nation’s progress rather than division and hatred. This version removes repetition, improves grammar, and presents the story in a professional news-report style.
